Fire Prevention & Protection

Fire prevention and protection involve reducing risks through proper housekeeping, controlling ignition sources, and implementing active/passive systems like detectors, extinguishers, and fire doors. Key strategies include conducting regular risk assessments, ensuring clear exit routes, maintaining electrical safety, and training personnel on emergency procedures. Fire Prevention Measures (Stopping Fires) Housekeeping: Keep work areas clean and free of combustible rubbish (e.g., paper, cardboard) to eliminate fuel sources. Electrical Safety: Do not overload sockets, check cords for damage, and ensure equipment is properly maintained. Hot Work: Use permits for welding or cutting; keep flammables at least 35 feet away or use fire watchers. Storage: Store flammable liquids in, and use only, approved containers and cabinets. Smoking: Only smoke in designated, safe areas and ensure proper butt disposal. Fire Protection Measures (Limiting Damage/Safety) Detection: Install and maintain smoke detectors and fire alarms. Suppression: Install fire extinguishers, sprinkler systems, and fire hoses. Evacuation: Clearly mark, light, and never block fire exits. Structural: Use fire-rated doors (never propped open) and fire-resistant materials to limit spread. Training: Conduct regular fire drills and safety training for all occupants.
